5/6/19 - My area just doubled in size
Oi friends! Just another great week in Santana!
Just a laugh for you all. At lunch one day Matias was talking about
an American president who was corrupt and she was like, "oh his name is
Hinkley or something..." I told her Hinkley was the prophet and she got
super embarrassed. Later that day I said
something about WWII and she said, "THAT'S IT!" She thought Hitler was
from the USA and she mixed him up with Hinkley.
Gorete is a reference we got from a member in Jardim Modelo. She's
pretty much one of the most elect people I know. She showed up to our
second lesson with the restoration phamplet all marked up with
annotations and questions. She's read a huge chunk of
O Livro de Mormon and she is always asking us for more "homework". She
has a baptismal date and I love her! MILAGES!
We had a less active of 20+ years show up at church out of nowhere
and the ward sent us to go vist them because when the Elders were here
they didn't accept visits but they wanted to see if us being Sisters
made any differene. They let us in and we taught
the whole family. It was amazing. Goes to show that it's like my dad
always told me growing up: Sisters are the Lord's secret weapons. Haha!
Sister Gamarano went home and so Almedia has been with out a
companion all week. We've been in a trio with her most days splitting up
our time between Tucuruvi and Santana. My area just doubled in size. A
few weeks ago a member in Santana gave us a refrence
and Matias and I went to go teach her. After the first lesson we gave
her to Tucuruvi because she technically lived in their area. I got to
teach her a few other times during divisions and then this week in our
trio we got to see her baptized! Team work makes
the dream work! Sadly we weren't able to be at her baptism on Sunday
becasue she was baptized at the same time as our sacerment meeting in
the other chapel.
Sunday I asked Sister Matais to put a Book of Mormon in her bag
because mine was super full. She asked me why and I told her I didn't
know why I just felt like we needed to take one today. No one came to
church after we were running all over to get people.
Big bummer. When we got there not even Maria was there to be confirmed.
Ah. We felt like such failures. At the end of the meeting Bishop Games
gets up and announces the confirmation of Maria. WHAT?! We found out
that she woke up at 6am to make almoço for us
and lost track of time and arrived a little late and snuck in the back.
It was a huge miracle! We had lunch with her family. Her family is
usually really cold with us but yesterday we joked and had fun with them
and at the end of lunch the whole family was
interested in learning more and visiting the chruch. Bea's boyfriend
was really interested in the Book of Mormon and knew we were prompted to
bring one with us because we needed to give it to him. We told them
that transfers are coming up and Maria's daughter
Bea was like, "No! I'll talk to your pastor and tell him that you guys
have taught my mom and are now going to teach me." haha! If only it
worked like that. I have faith that one day this family will be sealed.
All this from following a prompting and clapping
doors.
Have the best week friends! Beijos!
Sister Barbie
