Sweet Emma,
This has been a fun week with Valentines, Biz Town (I got the message
about missionaries ability to call/text home each week while at Biz
Town...Melissa Chandler ran over to my 'business' and told me the news!)
I think it's such a good idea. I know of a lot
more people who are considering a mission now. It seems that the only
think holding them back was fear of homesickness. Many parents get
teary when they tell how their son/daughter wants to go now. What a
blessing. I hope this will be a help to you. Dad
and I want you to use this new option as YOU need it. We would love to
hear from you any PDay you want to call/skype but we also understand if
doesn't work out sometimes...whatever works with your schedule. We
hope you will continue to write (we are making
a blog book with all your letters as a written history of your mission)
even if you call.
Family History Fun: This week Delle asked me to teach in our Stake
Leadership Meeting. I shared my favorite Family History websites and
the cool things they can do. I'm curious if these would work in
Brazil. I included them just in case some of your investigators
are curious about their family history. I know that Family History is a
great missionary tool.
Family History Helps:
Find how you’re related to famous people (links into your Family Search account)
Find “All the Stories” about your ancestors (links into your Family Search account)
Apps:
FamilySearch-
Print names for your temple trip, do ‘tasks’, find relatives around you, map your ancestors, search
historical records etc...
FamilySearch Memories-
add/view photos, record interviews, upload documents
Valentine's:
Dad spoiled me! He cooked me this amazing meal of stuffed chicken,
risotto, asparagus,
fancy cheese and crackers, and chocolate covered strawberries. He set
up the basement with fine China and candles. We got dressed up for the
dinner and he made a Valentine's playlist. He worked really hard on
this meal and it turned out deliciously!
I
helped in Mari's class Valentine's party. Walker spoiled her...and
wasn't embarrassed about it!
(Pretty cool for a 5th grader!) I'll send a picture. He seemed really
proud of himself. Eve was asked to prom but not by the guy she was
hoping would ask her. She will tell you all about it. Hyrum gave a few
special Valentine's to someone special but
I'll let him tell you about it.
Anyway,
maybe you heard about our 2 earthquakes. They happened about 5am on
Friday morning (about
3.7 magnitude). They woke us up. When the first one came Dad thought
it was the wind shaking the house. I told him I thought it was an
earthquake (the sound was different than the wind). The next one hit a
few minutes later. I admit I was afraid but not
panicked. I got up and got my shoes by my bed, (just in case) and I
checked on the kids. Mari slept through it but it woke Eve and Hyrum
up. I think it was a good reminder to get our emergency kits in order.
Do you have emergency supplies in your apartment?
Anyway, we are fine and now we have a cool story. Eve downloaded an
app that reports the earthquakes around the world. I thought this app
would freak her out because of the multiple earthquakes that happen each
day, but she said it actually calms her because
she is learning just how common earthquakes are. Does Brazil get
earthquakes? What is Brazil susceptible to (besides huge spiders and
lightening storms😝)
I love you. I'm sending a big hug!
Love,
Mom
Hey Emma
I'll be very brief with valentines
I gave a gift that was one-uped
(By something not nearly as cool)
It was probably the strangest
singles awareness day I've ever had.I haven't
always been sleeping well, so i woke up at like 3
one morning, and at 5, i felt 2 earthquakes,
one 3.4 and the other 3.8. It was supposed to be an aftershock, but was
slightly stronger. My life has been pretty boring otherwise
Hope to get your call, if you decide to do that!
Hyrum
M,
Big news about being able to call home when you want to. It has caused a
lot of debates at home. Many are excited while others feels things are
getting soft. We received an announcement from your Mission President
about it but not any commentary. We look
forward to seeing what it will mean for you. Please do not feel like
you need to call home each P-Day. We know your P-Days are a time to get
things done. I do have some concern that calling home might make
impact your letters. Your letters are awesome
and we are collecting them on a blog. We were at Biz-Town for the 5th
grade when the news broke. All the missionary moms or soon to be
missionary moms huddled in a corner and discussed it in great detail.
We are getting a lot of snow this winter. We bought the snowblower but
we had to order it. We are still shoveling by hand. We got another 3
inches on Saturday morning and it is snowing again while I type this.
We will likely get the snowblower in time for
everything to warm up. That has been my concern every time I think
about buying one. It has been good. The snow has provided a lot of
service opportunities.
We are hoping to pick you up but so far we have not received any info
from the mission office about your release date. We know what it shows
on the website the Bishop has access to. We are hoping to make more
concrete plans when we can. We are starting to
get into the Mission Call season. The Seniors are starting to hit
submit on the their mission papers. Luke Chandler hit submit a week
ago. Nick Medina will be hitting Submit this week sometime. It is
exciting and reminds me of waiting for your call to
come. Attempting to make a video of checking the mailbox just to see
it empty. It is a exciting time.
Valetine's Day was awesome. We finally found out what it meant to be a
Valetine. Mari got a massive haul from a kid at school. She was very
happy. Your Mom continued to spoil me with the many gift she provided.
I was very happy. I attempted to make Mom
a dinner. I made her Prosciutto wrapped chicken and Dried Cherries.
It was a kind of stuffing I made with dried cherries. It was very
Salty/Sweet. I also made some Herb Lemon rice and Asparagus. I made up
the basement in candle light dinner setting.
She liked it and it made great leftovers.
We had a very interesting Friday. Your Mom and I woke up to what I
thought was a strong wind gust. It was so strong it woke us up. Your
mom thought it was an earthquake and I stood firm it was the wind. A
few minutes later the house shook again. It was
definitely an earthquake. I got online and confirmed it was in the
high 3s. The center was in Bluffdale. The whole house was awake as it
was a little 5:00 AM. This the morning we were going to Biz-Town. Low
sleep and a headache is not how we wanted to
start the day. Biz-Town was crazy and I'm glad I never have to do it
again. It looked like a great experience for all the kids. We all came
home and power napped the afternoon. It was exhausting and the 5:00 AM
start did not help.
In other news, we bought the kids all new mattresses. We got rid of the
springs and brought in memory foam. We spent the week trying out
different mattresses until the kids all found what they wanted. I
mattresses will come in a box we get to open and watch
the mattresses take shape. The kids are excited. We are attempting
whatever we can to get Hyrum better sleep. We hope this will help.
We get people asking about you daily. You have many praying for your success. Keep doing your best and miracles will happen.
Love ya kid
Dad
