7/10/18 - Bible Bashed in Brasil
Don't have a bunch of time and there is so much I want to tell you ah!
4th of july is my favorite holiday ever and we had splits so we
called all the Americans and sang with them. I didn't have an American
flag so I BECAME THE FLAG and wore bright red and blue. I made my ingês
class celebrate with me that night by lighting sparklers. They wanted me
to sing the National Anthem but I was still a little sick and couldn't
sing the song of my people.
While tracting one night we found a group of teens around a boom
box taking turns rapping. I jumped into their circle and tried to rap
our invitation in Portuguese. They were pretty surprised because here's
this super white American girl in a skirt trying to rap about Jesus in
Portuguese on the streets of Sorocaba. Sister A. Ribeiro thought I was
crazy, but the kids thought I was funny and they listend to our actual
invitation. That was fun.
I taught a baptist pastor this week. He requested a Book of Mormon
on Mormon.org so we tried to deliver it a few times and finally got a
hold of him. When we found out he was a pastor... good grief that was
fun. WE WERE STUCK AT HIS HOUSE FOR 2.5 HOURS because he wouldnt stop
talking. We tried to share the Restoration and when we explained about
the Book of Mormon he told us we were possessed by demons and leading
people down to Hell and all this other nasty stuff. The good thing about
my comp and I is when stuff like this happens we just laugh. We just
got up and left after a while. Good times.
Our ward mission leader says we surprised the ward! We're getting
everone on board and things are really picking up. We've recieved more
referrals this week alone than all of last transfer combined. Our
investigators are progressing and I continue to see the hand of the Lord
in my life every day! All is possible though him! It's a huge tender
mercy for me when I teach my investigators and then ask them to repeat
what they understand and they understand it all perfectly! They
understand my Portuguese! 3 months in and I feel like I understand about
80% of what is said and I speak with about the same gramatical
accuracy. Even the members have commented that they've really seen my
progress with the language. I know it is all because of Dom de Linguas.
Miracles like these aren't possible without God.
Brasil is out of the world cup but we still party every day.
Drink some rootbeer and think of me!
