Sweet Emma,
All is well here. Tonight we
had my family over for our Halloween Party. Everyone came! We planned
Thanksgiving (our house also) and started talking about Christmas.
Looks like we will be exchanging crazy socks instead of gifts or a
service project this year. Should be fun. Eve and Sariah decided it
would be a good idea to taste all the Dum-Dum Suckers (see
picture)...then they tried to get the younger cousins to eat them.
Tanner knew they were already licked and said, "what's wrong with
that?". We stopped him from eating them in the nick of time!
Witching is OVER! It was fun
but very tiring! They added new shows so I had to do 4 shows a night
(but I earned $115). I will try to send a video of "Fanny Fiddlewitch
and her Fiddle-Faddle Band". I tried to take a lot of pictures to send
to your English class. Sister Volt's mom sent pictures of her Halloween
party. She is a cute witch. I think she was with the Primary kids.
Fidelity had a Fall Festival at
the Gateway. Mark was in charge. He did a great job and dressed up as
"Rex-kwan-do" from Napoleon Dynamite. (He wore Kade's pants). While we
were waiting for Ben to finish up at work, Mark took our picture and
put it up on the Jumbo-screen at the Gateway. Mari and Sami had their
fortune told. We painted pumpkins and got a meal ticket from a food
truck of our choice. We briefly saw Brad and Schery/family but never
found Nate/Eliza. They had about 3500 people attend!
I absolutely love the pictures
you send (nice tan!) You are looking great! I'm so glad that area is
having success with investigators. It's so cool that they are telling
their friends/family about the "message". It is truly a message of Good
News! Thanks for the garden pictures...and the bright pink house! So
cool! I also love the Photo-shoot pics your friend Sheila. She also
sent a video of "Dead or Alive" in Primary. Looks like you won!
Prayer, Scripture, Family Home Evening! These Brazilians are such good
people! I wish I could reach through the computer/phone and give them a
big hug! It looks like you fit right in!😊
I don't think I told you more
news from home: They reorganized our Relief Society Presidency. Ruth
Soderquist is our new President with Brittany Henage and Becca Young as
counselors. Marnie Thorpe is the Secretary. I am so excited for them!
Is there anything we can do for
you? We miss you. Dad and I are so proud of you. I can't believe how
fast the time is going. We are very blessed that although we miss you
so much, our hearts do not hurt like I thought they would. I talked to
Sam Bolschweiler's mom and she is so sad, missing Sam that she's lost 10
pounds since she's been gone. I would love to lose 10 lbs but I'm
really thankful that I only feel joy when I think of your missionary
service, not pain! Tender Mercy right there!
Big Hugs!
💜 Mom
M,
The videos we have received
have been very fun to watch. It is good to know you are making an
impact on the people and that you are safe and having fun. I served in
one area for 10-11 months. I had 7-8 different companions during that
time. The numbers are fuzzy but I was there for along time. I got very
close to the members and my companions struggled to develop that same
amount of trust. It could be that you two are together for another
month or two to give you time to deepen your relationships. We had a
missionary in Canada, Elder Black, who was very engaging. Everywhere he
went he baptized a large number of people. As soon as he left an area
most of the converts went inactive and all investigators dropped. They
were all converted to him. They had not developed a relationship with
the remaining Elders or the members. You are given time to develop
these relationships to keep the spiritual momentum moving. Do you best
to find a way into their hearts and when you change companions you will
be OK.
This has been a low stress week
for me. I'm not doing so hot at work but that comes and gos. Hyrum
had his last football game this week. They lost again to Park City. He
did not play much. They replaced him on the Offensive Line and still
had major problems. It was the first time I secretly cheered against a
team my kid was one. It was weird how they treated him on the
sideline. He was not playing but he was getting yelled at when the
Offensive Line did not block or the defensive did not tackle. This all
bothers me more than it bothers him. He seems untouchable in these
situations. We can learn a lot from him. There are far better ways to
handle this than the coaching staff has. Your Mom prayed that they
would lose so we can be done for the season. It will be good to move on
to the next thing.
We had a big Fidelity Party
this week. They canceled the Summer BBQ and the Holiday party and threw
a major Fall Festival. Your Uncle Mark was in charge and did a great
job. He borrowed the Levers American flag pants and went as Rex Kwon
Doe. He went around asking people to grab his "arm . . . the other arm .
. . my other arm." "Do you want a roundhouse kick to the face with these
bad boys?" "Do you get to go home to Starla at night?" Nate mentioned
this on a family group text and we all had fun with it. Your Grandma
asked if Mark was talking in a "deep sexy voice" like Rex Kwon do. Nate
replied that Grandma is on hiatus from commenting for a while. I never
thought of Rex Kwon Doe having a sexy voice. I guess everyone has a
type. There was a mass of humanity at the Gateway. They had about a
dozen food trucks, a few carnival games, some virtual reality games,
trick or treat doors. Mari came but Hyrum and Eve decided to pass. We
took Mari when we were done to Howdy Homemade Ice Cream. It is an Ice
Cream parlor who hires people with disabilities. It is a good cause and
very good ice cream. We went home to Eve having her birthday party.
We hunkered down in the basement and waited it out.
Tonight we had the Schmidt
family Halloween party and everyone came. I took the cousins in the
basement and we started some video game tournaments. Grandma Charlene
seems to have more energy. Grandma Shea is fading. I think she is
shrinking. Not bad posture but really getting smaller. Everyone went
home happy an we will have them back at our place in a few weeks for
Thanksgiving. We will try to smoke another turkey. I will have my
fingers crossed. Your mom surviving witching this last weekend. She
committed to work on Friday and Saturday. They gave her double the
assignments they said they would. They loved that she played the
fiddle. She did great and came home exhausted. I think she will do a
better job of saying no next year. You might be able to do a search
for her as Fanny Fiddlewitch and show some of your Brazil friends if
that would be of interest to them.
We are very proud of you. Find a way into the hearts of those you are serving. A way will be provided if you keep trying.
Love ya kid
Dad
